Terms of Use
Last updated November 6, 2026
1. Who we are and what these Terms cover
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Dameli Aimbetova, a sole proprietor doing business as Dinner Shelf, 4815 Eldorado Mews, Vancouver, BC V5R 0B2, Canada ("Dinner Shelf", "we", "us"). They apply to the Dinner Shelf app for iPhone (and Android when available), our widgets, the website dinnershelf.com and related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Who can use Dinner Shelf
- Dinner Shelf is offered in the United States and Canada.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must give accurate account details and keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- One account is for one person. Do not share or sell accounts.
3. What the Service does
Dinner Shelf lets you save recipes from social media, websites, screenshots, photos of printed pages or by typing them in; organise them in collections; plan meals for the week; build grocery lists; cook step by step; browse curated collections in Discover; log water; and log meals and estimate calories and macros from photos or text with the help of artificial intelligence ("AI features").
Some features work outside the app: Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Live Activities, Control Center controls, the Action button and a quick camera. What you log there, such as a glass of water, a snack, a grocery item or a meal photo, is saved to your account in the same way as in the app.
We may add, change or remove features. If we remove a paid feature that is a main part of Premium, we will tell you in advance.
4. Premium, free trial and billing
- Free plan. The free plan includes a limited number of AI uses per month (currently 10). Importing a recipe from a link, video or photo, logging food from a photo or a text description, an AI calorie and nutrition estimate for a recipe, and an ingredient swap each use one. Typing recipes or calories in yourself is always free and does not count.
- Premium. Premium is an auto-renewing subscription, currently US$39.99 per year or US$8.99 per month, as shown before you buy. Premium is bought on the web, priced in US dollars and, for now, sold in the United States only; in Canada, the free plan is available. First-time visitors to dinnershelf.com may get 50% off their first month of the monthly plan.
- Free trial. New subscribers to the annual plan may get a 7-day free trial. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts and you are charged the annual price. You can have one free trial per account. The monthly plan has no free trial.
- Payment. Premium is paid only on the web, through Stripe. There are no in-app purchases through Apple or Google. Stripe processes your card; we never see or store your full card details.
- Renewal and cancellation. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Manage or cancel it in the app in Profile → Manage subscription, which opens Stripe's billing portal, or through the link in any Stripe receipt email. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Premium stays active until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Deleting your account in the app cancels the subscription first, then deletes the account.
- Refunds. To ask for a refund, email support@dinnershelf.com within 14 days of the first charge and we will refund it. This does not affect any refund rights you have under consumer law.
- Price changes. We will tell you before a price change applies to you, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
5. Importing recipes
- You decide what to import. You may import content only for your own personal, non-commercial use, or where you have the right to do so.
- When you share a link with Dinner Shelf, we open the publicly available post or page on your behalf and use automated tools, including AI, to read the caption, spoken audio, on-screen text and linked recipe page, and turn them into a structured recipe.
- We always keep the name of the original creator and a link to the original post where we can identify them. Do not remove or change credits to pass off someone else's work as your own.
- One recipe per source. If several people import the same post, we keep one copy of the recipe and show it to each of them. Changes you make to your copy are visible only to you, unless you share them. Credit and source fields are kept as the creator published them and you cannot change them.
- Importing a recipe does not give you or us ownership of it. The creator keeps their rights.
6. Your content
- "Your content" means recipes you type in, notes, edits, photos, meal logs, collections and anything else you add.
- You keep ownership of your content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, process, adapt and display your content only to run, secure and improve the Service for you, and to show it to people you choose to share it with.
- This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups kept for up to 30 days and content you have already shared with others.
- You confirm you have the rights needed for content you add, and that it does not break the law or anyone else's rights.
7. Discover and creators
- Discover shows recipes and collections chosen by our team. Each recipe is credited to its creator and links to the original post. In Discover we show the creator's own thumbnail from the post, linked to the original post.
- Creators can ask us to fix a credit, remove a recipe or set up a creator page. See our Creator & Copyright Policy.
- When a recipe is removed at the creator's request, it disappears from Discover and search and can no longer be imported. Copies that users saved earlier are replaced in their libraries by a note: "Removed at the creator's request". The ingredients, steps, nutrition and photo are deleted from the copy; the title, the credit and the link to the original post stay.
8. AI features
- AI features produce estimates and suggestions. They can be wrong, incomplete or misread a photo, video or text. Always check a recipe before cooking, and check calorie and macro numbers before relying on them.
- To provide AI features we send the relevant content (for example a food photo, a recipe page, or the transcript of a video's audio, which we make on our own server) to our AI service providers listed in the Privacy Policy. Our providers do not use this content to train their models. Food photos are deleted from our servers as soon as the estimate is ready.
- Do not use AI features to process content you have no right to use, or other people's personal information without their permission.
9. Health and nutrition
- Dinner Shelf gives general information about food, recipes and nutrition. It is not medical, dietary or nutritional advice and does not replace a doctor or registered dietitian.
- Calories, macros and nutrition values are estimates based on recipes, descriptions, photos and public nutrition data. Actual values depend on ingredients, brands, portions and cooking.
- Check ingredients yourself for allergies, intolerances and dietary needs. We cannot guarantee that a recipe or product is free from any allergen.
- Talk to a health professional before changing your diet, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition or take medication.
- Do not use Dinner Shelf to pursue unsafe calorie restriction. If you are worried about your eating, stop using calorie tracking and contact a professional or an eating disorder support service in your country.
10. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use the Service to infringe copyright or other rights, including by importing content in bulk to republish it;
- scrape, crawl or extract data from the Service, or use bots to import content;
- copy, resell or build a competing service from our recipe database, collections or software;
- reverse engineer the app, get around usage limits or security, or access other accounts;
- upload unlawful, harmful, hateful or sexual content, malware or spam;
- use the Service in a way that breaks the law or the rules of the platforms you import from.
11. Third-party services
The Service links to and imports from third-party platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook and recipe websites. We are not responsible for their content, availability or terms, and your use of them is governed by their own terms.
12. Our intellectual property
The app, website, design, logos, the Dinner Shelf name, our editorial collections (including The Edit) and software belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, under these Terms and the store's rules.
13. Ending your use
- You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time in Profile → Account → Delete account, or as described at dinnershelf.com/delete-account. If you delete your account in the app, we cancel your Premium subscription first, then delete the account.
- We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect users, creators or the Service. Where reasonable we will tell you first and explain why.
- Sections 6 (licence for content already shared), 9, 12 and 14–18 continue after your account ends.
14. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that recipes, imports, AI outputs or nutrition values will be accurate. Nothing in these Terms removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law.
15. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of data or profits, or for harm resulting from cooking, eating or dietary choices based on content in the Service. Our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be excluded by law.
16. Indemnity
If you are not a consumer, or where the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable costs from third-party claims caused by your content or by your breach of these Terms.
17. Governing law and disputes
- These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of British Columbia have jurisdiction, except that consumers can also bring claims where they live and keep the protection of their local consumer laws, including in Québec and the United States.
- Before starting a claim, please contact us at legal@dinnershelf.com so we can try to resolve it within 30 days.
- There is no mandatory arbitration.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it applies. If you do not agree, you can stop using the Service and cancel your subscription before the change applies.
19. Apple App Store terms
If you downloaded the app from the App Store: these Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is not responsible for claims about the app, including product liability, legal compliance or intellectual property claims. If the app fails to meet a warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price, if any, and Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties.
